Submission Guidelines

Types of submissions for The Classical Connection

Submission

Articles: in-depth articles/essays addressing a theoretical or practical discussion of classical thought, modern thought, or the intersection between them
  1. MLA or APA format
  2. 4,000-6,000 words (inclusive of abstract, endnotes, and works cited)
  3. Double-blind peer reviewed
  4. To be considered for publication (3 issues per year)
Reviews โ€“ short articles reviewing books, films, conferences, etc., as they relate to classical and modern thought
  1. MLA or APA format
  2. Length: 1,200-1,800 words (inclusive of endnotes and citations)
  3. Editorial review
  4. To be considered for online first publication
Reflections: Classical and Modern Thought โ€” short articles, such as highlighting applications in the classroom, best practices in teaching and learning both inside and outside the classroom, new multimodal approaches, insights into classical and modern thought, and/or additional items/ideas not fitting neatly into a scholarly article
  1. Authors can use MLA, APA, or a creative format
  2. Length: typical length is approximately 1,500 words (with flexibility if needed)
  3. Editorial review
  4. To be considered for online first publication
Proposals for Special Issues

Description of proposed special issue including a brief description (up to 500 words) of the topic to be considered, titles of at least 5 potential articles, and short bios (up to 250 words) of all editors.

The outcomes of the review process are:

Description of proposed special issue including a brief description (up to 500 words) of the topic to be considered, titles of at least 5 potential articles, and short bios (up to 250 words) of all editors.

Accept

The article/essay is approved for publication excepting sentence-level grammatical and mechanical editing concerns.

Accept with revisions

The article/essay offers scholarship valuable to popular culture studies, but based on reviewer comments, some revision, clarification, or reorganization is necessary. If the essay is revised in keeping with the reviewer suggestions, it will be accepted for publication in a future issue of the Journal..

Revise and resubmit

The article/essay has the potential to be publishable material, but the review suggestions indicate that revisions in scope, research, and/or style are necessary prior to a reconsideration of the essay. Authors are encouraged to revise accordingly and resubmit the essay, at which point it will be forwarded for double-blind review once more.

Reject

The article/essay does not fit the scope and/or scholarly requirements for publication.

Submission may be returned prior to the review process if the editors determine the essay does not fit the scholarly requirements for publication and/or the scope of the Journal.

The Classical Connection uses a non-exclusive licensing agreement. With respect to open access publishing, the authors retain the copyright along with the primary scholarly usage rights. And grants the journal publication and distribution rights.
